After the first screening back in September at the Toronto Film Festival, 'William Tell' finally opens tomorrow, January 10, on the UK after today's premiere in London with all the cast members present for opening night.
Starring Claes Bang (The Northman), Connor Swindells (Sex Education), Jonah Hauer-King (The Little Mermaid) and many other English and European actors, the epic historical drama follows the story of William Tell, a fictional hero of Switzerland's folk, a legendary marksman said to kill the Austrian king Albrecht Gessler when he was trying to invade Switzerland.
With Nick Hamm adapting the play for the screen and directing the film, after a couple of years without any movies from him, he's coming back with an action filled medieval drama about the invasion of Switzerland and the icon that saved his homeland from the Austrian king.
So far, after the first screening at the Toronto Film Festival and the premiere, the opinions about the film are inconclusive, with some critics saying great things and others calling it a run-of-the-mill play adaptation with nothing new to offer.
When it comes to historical fiction, there are standards and expectations that audiences want fulfilled, especially when it comes to action and drama, so it's not unusual that the opinions are not as positive, leaving it with a 58% Tomatometer at the moment. You'll have to go and watch it to form your own opinion about it, though, so don't miss your chance while it's in theaters!
