In this ongoing award season 'The Brutalist' alongside 'Emilia Perez' has been one of the most awarded and nominated movies, being actually audience's favorite and the one in everyone's mouth as the strongest contender for Best Picture at the Oscars, as well as Adrien Brody being one of the front runners for Best Actor, with everyone talking greatly about his hungarian accent and how difficult that was to accomplish.
That was until a couple days ago, that is, when the editor of the movie Dávid Jancsó said in an interview that there was AI in the making of the film. One of the strongest points for the campaign of this movie was how little it cost, with just a $10 million budget for a film of almost 3 hours, with some outstanding cinematography.
But of course, it makes sense now that 'The Brutalist' was only $10 million knowing that MidJourney, a generative AI, made "some" of the building and drawings, according to the statment. Not only that but an AI company called Respeecher was behind enhancing Brody's Hungarian accent.
The internet didn't take this lightly, of course, since AI, specially generative image softwares like MidJourney are causing immense environmental damage, and considering that back to the SAG-AFTRA strike, the use of AI was something everyone was advocating to keep out of filmmaking.
As for Respeecher and Brody's accent enhancement, people are saying it would be unfair if he won a Best Actor ward for this, since we don't really know how much the use of this software changes his performance.
Do you think award voters would consider this as something bad enough that it would affect the possibilities of an Oscar?
