Up and coming British actress Mia McKenna-Bruce, star of the "Un Certain Regard 2023" winner 'How To Have Sex', lands her next big project with French filmmaker Claire Denis, known for cult classics like 'Beau Travail' and 'High Life'.
The movie name it's 'The Cry of the Guard' and Denis herself is behind the writing, alongside French filmmaker Suzanne Lindon and American screenwriter Andrew Litvack, who Denis has worked with in the past for 'High Life'. The movie will be an adaptation of a play by Bernard-Marie Koltes, "Black Battles With Dogs".
Mia McKenna-Bruce is taking one of the lead roles (apparently previously taken by Railey Keough) alongside american actor Matt Dillon and Ivorian actor Isaach de Bankolé, who would be collaborating with director Claire Denis for the third time for this movie.
'The Cry of the Guard' (originally 'Le Cri Des Gardes'), is happening in Senegal, where a group of workers in a French construction site meets a man whose brother died in an accident working for them. Denis' work is always conceptual, deeply personal and very human, so with a premise like this we can expect a lot of feelings. But we still have a long wait to go before getting to know more details, since pre-production is just beginning.
The film is being produced by Curiosa Film, and it's probably gonna be ready for the 2026 festival circuit, let's hope that the distribution is wide and this turns into another opportunity for McKenna-Bruce to shine bright and dazzle everyone with her acting talent under Denis' direction.
