'Hot Milk' starring Emma Mackey it's premiering on Berlinale 2025

Festival season is around the corner and we're hearing all the titles that are gonna be premiering soon, including 'Hot Milk'. The directorial debut by British screenwriter and playwright Rebecca Lenkiewicz, known for her play 'Her Naked Skin', and for writing in movies as iconic as 'Disobedience'.

This time Rebecca decides to take the reigns in every way, writing and directing 'Hot Milk' all by herself, adapted from the novel of the same name by British author Deborah Levy, with Film4 Productions, Bonnie Productions and Heretic Films behind the project, originally starring Jessie Buckley.

When the first announcement about the film came out back in 2022, Jessie Buckley was leading the cast in the main role of Sofia, and in May of 2023, Emma Mackey entered the project as Sofia, a 25 years old anthropologist taking care of her paralyzed mother Rose, who doesn't seem to get better despite their efforts for recovery. Looking for better options and treatments, both of them travel to Spain, where Sofia meets Ingrid, a seamstress that turns her world upside down.

Irish actress Fiona Shaw is playing Rose, Sofia's mother, and Vicky Krieps plays Ingrid, the seamstress object of Sofia's obsession. The film is going to be a drama focusing on the mother-daugther relationship between Sofia and Rose, while dealing with her paralysis in this new country. How much Ingrid will impact their life and relationship, we're gonna find out when we see the film or read the critics and review this February when the 75th Berlinale takes place.
