Avatar: The Way of Water was a monumental success, re-igniting the franchise and leaving audiences eager for more of Pandora's breathtaking world. The next installment, Avatar 3, is already on the horizon, promising to delve even deeper into the intricate tapestry of this alien planet.
During this year's D23 Expo, held from August 9th to 11th in Anaheim, California, the Walt Disney Company announced its upcoming film and television slate. Highlights of the event included the release of the first official trailer for the live-action Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler (West Side Story) and exciting news for fans of Toy Story and The Incredibles, two of the most beloved franchises for Disney and Pixar fan base.
D23 also surprised us with the official title of Avatar 3, promising fire, magic, incredible performances and amazing effects for fans of the Pandora universe. The title was announced by director James Cameron himself, who took to the stage with his regular cast members, Sam Worthington (Jake Sully) and Zoe Saldana (Neytiri), to reveal that the third installment in the franchise will be known as Avatar: Fire and Ash.
Other notable returning cast members include Sigourney Weaver as Kiri, Stephen Lang as Colonel Miles Quaritch, and Joel David Moore as Dr. Norm Spellman. While Kate Winslet's involvement in the third installment remains uncertain, fans can look forward to the additions of Michelle Yeoh, Oona Chaplin, and David Thewlis to the cast.
Until recently, Avatar 3 release date was for December 20th of this year. However, the Hollywood writers and actor's strike, as well as post-production challenges forced a delay, necessitating a new release date set for Friday, December 19th, 2025.
