The Minions are the goose that lays the golden eggs for Illumination, which wants to make the most of them. It's no surprise, then, that the company has confirmed with Universal that development of Minions 3 is already underway, and that the film even has a confirmed release date (via The Hollywood Reporter). The news comes just days after the successful debut of Despicable Me 4. The film which has already grossed more than $255 million worldwide. Minions 3 will serve as a continuation of the spin-off subseries consisting of The Minions (2015) and Minions: The Rise of Gru (2022).
As for its release date, it has been set for June 30, 2027. This means that fans will have to wait practically three years to enjoy Minions 3 in theaters. It is evident that the early announcement of this movie seeks to take advantage of the exposure that the endearing yellow characters have at this time thanks to the fourth installment of Despicable Me. It is still too early to know what storyline Minions 3 will address. The good news is that Illumination has already defined the artistic team that will be in charge of the new installment, and its main figures have a vast experience within the franchise.
The director of Minions 3 will reportedly be Pierre Coffin, who was already in charge of the first three Despicable Me installments, as well as the first spin-off of the yellow creatures. The choice is more than obvious, considering that the Frenchman has also been in charge of lending his voice to several of the most important Minions, including Kevin, Bob and Stuart. As for the screenplay, Brian Lynch will be in charge.
