Amy Adams, Paul Rudd and Tessa Thompson will lead the cast of The invite, the new film by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, better known for fifteen years as "the 'Little Miss Sunshine' guys".
It is a remake of spanish film 'Sentimental', the film written and directed by Cesc Gay, winner of the Seventh Best Spanish Film of 2020, which in turn took inspiration by 'Los vecinos de arriba' (The upstairs neighbors) a play by the filmmaker himself which releasing took place five years earlier in Barcelona. Adams will play Griselda Siciliani while Rudd will assume the role by Javier Cámara. Thompson will play Belén Cuesta, while the role of Alberto San Juan has not yet been cast.
Will McCormack and actress Rashida Jones -who this Friday premieres the series 'Silo' on Apple- are the screenwriters of this Permut Presentations and FilmNation Entertainment production, with the latter in charge of managing international sales during the upcoming "Marché du Film" parallel to the Cannes Film Festival.
The invite tells the story of Julio (Javier Cámara) and Ana (Griselda Siciliani) a couple in crisis who spend their time fighting. One night, Ana decides to invite her upstairs neighbors, Salva (Alberto San Juan) and Laura (Belén Cuesta), to dinner, even though Julio does not think highly of them and they make too much noise during sex. Throughout the night, several secrets that the couple had not told each other come to light. The neighbors will make an unusual and surprising proposal that will turn the evening into a cathartic experience for the couple.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script for The invite is in charge of Emmy nominee Rashida Jones and Academy Award winner Will McCormack. Producers include Academy Award nominee David Permut (Hacksaw Ridge) for Permut Presentations and FilmNation Entertainment.
