Daniel Radcliffe, star of the Harry Potter films, has confessed the reasons that moved him to take a public stand against the writer J.K. Rowling after the creator of the famous saga demonstrated her transphobia by her comments against the trans community. It all started when the writer publicly supported Maya Forstater, a British researcher who said that transgender people could not change their biological sex. Since then, she has been the subject of several campaigns on the Internet, where she has received endless insults and a lot of hate from the collective.
However, despite all the consequences, the British writer has maintained her position on several occasions, and in fact, she herself has been responsible for fueling the controversy, supporting transphobic opinions on social networks. This is why actor Daniel Radcliffe let everyone know his opinion on the subject.
“The reason I was felt very, very much as though I needed to say something when I did was because, particularly since finishing ‘Potter,’ I’ve met so many queer and trans kids and young people who had a huge amount of identification with Potter on that. And so seeing them hurt on that day I was like, I wanted them to know that not everybody in the franchise felt that way. And that was really important,” Radcliffe told IndieWire during a recent interview. Daniel refers to a letter he wrote in 2020. In the letter, the young man takes a stand in favor of trans people. “It’s clear that we need to do more to support transgender and nonbinary people, not invalidate their identities, and not cause further harm,” he wrote at the time.
